Guildford-born James F. Johnston has spent most of his life known as a musician: founder of Gallon Drunk, a former member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Faust, and Big Sexy Noise with Lydia Lunch, he’s played on records by Barry Adamson, Dot Allison and PJ Harvey. It was while on tour with the latter that a way of killing time turned into a daily practice, then a livelihood, and is now – by Johnston’s own reckoning – his primary identity.
