Bands heralding their own end is not that uncommon a thing. Godflesh themselves have done this twice so far. But it hits differently when it’s a cherished band from your late adolescence. The Brummie duo were, for me, an epiphanic trove unearthed around the time of their reunion, shaping my taste for the heavy, low-tuned and minimalist strains of extreme music amid the ruins of what could once have been an independent, DIY, creative, intrepid scene, long since lost.
